Soon it may turn out that the well-known form of sending SMS messages will disappear from our phones. All thanks to the American operator Verizon, who plans to change this form of communication.

Everyone knows SMS

Although nowadays people communicate via various types of messengers, SMS is still one of the forms of sending messages. The history of the first SMS goes back to December 3, 1992, when Neil Papworth in Great Britain sent it first. It was a Vodafone employee who included Christmas greetings in the message and sent them to his colleagues. In fact, the original assumption of the introduction of SMS was the communication of the network operator with its client in the event of a sudden failure, etc. It was not anticipated that this form of communication would become so popular and grow to such a large extent.

A new vision - Verizon

Verizon, as a US mobile network, has a plan to retire SMS. They announced that in the next 2019 they will introduce the latest form of communication. Verizon is expected to eliminate SMS. What's new? The American cellular network plans to introduce a system called Rich Communication Suite. It is to enable the transfer of multimedia files up to 100 MB in size in one message. This is quite a competitive size considering the current MMS capabilities, the size of which is 300 KM, and the number of characters in the SMS is 160 (900 in some phones).

Competition for Messenger

Messenger is currently the most popular messenger that allows you to send text messages of any length, photos, videos, your own location or music. It turns out that the RCS system, created by Verizon, will also have such capabilities. This could mean a lot of competition.

Only the United States so far

Considering the fact that Verizon is an American cellular network, we could expect that the first people to test the new RSC system would be the Americans. Of course, it can be seen on the market that many such services are already being tested in a pilot form, but so far they are only offered by Google.
