Patients may experience health problems for up to six months after recovery, according to a study conducted in Wuhan.

The reputable journal The Lancet examined over 1700 patients in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the virus was detected just over a year ago.

They have shown that patients who have recovered from Covid-19 can struggle with health problems long after recovery.

May cause sleep problems

The study found that 76 percent of patients had at least one symptom several months after discharge from the hospital.

The study is the largest scale ever conducted. The most common symptoms are severe fatigue and problems with sleeping. 26 percent of patients had suffered in the last six months after they were judged healthy. At the same time, more than 63 percent of respondents were tired even six months after their illness.

"Because Covid-19 is such a new disease, we are just beginning to understand the long-term harm it does to patients," said Dr. Bin Cao, who works at Capital Medical University and led the research, in a statement CNN.

- Our analyzes show that most patients experience the same discomfort due to the disease. This means that even after discharge from the hospital, there is a need to continue treatment. Especially for people with a severe course of the disease.

Uncertainty

There are still many unknowns about the coronavirus, and scientists around the world are working on mapping long-term complications from past Covid-19 disease.

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) previously identified lethargy, shortness of breath, coughing, joint pain, and chest pain as the long-term effects of the infection.

Some studies have also shown that patients may have difficulty concentrating, headaches and depression.
