Recently published report reveals extensive health problems among residents near a wind farm in the commune of Tysvær in Rogaland. Health problems of residents near a wind farm
– The report documents that noise and other impacts of wind turbines on human health and quality of life are very serious, says John Fiskvik, head of Motvind Norge. If you look at the permanent residents included in the report, 47 percent of them are concerned about noise from wind turbines. Sleep problems are also common. A total of 32 percent say they have trouble sleeping once a week or more because of noise from wind turbines. Compared to people across the country who have trouble sleeping, the problem is more common among people in Tysvær.
Many want to move out of the area
The opinion expressed the opinion that, at the request of the Tysvær municipality, unfavorable health conditions among residents near the Tysvær Vindpark wind farm were investigated. Mapping was carried out in the form of a quantitative survey and an in-depth follow-up interview. In-depth interviews show that noise has a huge impact on the lives of people affected by it, both in the form of general annoyance and deterioration of health. A total of 31 percent claims that wind turbines affect their health. The inconvenience is so great that many people want to leave the area.

– If we take into account both permanent residents and part-time residents, as many as 37 percent would like to move out of the property and sell it if possible. This is disturbing, says Fiskvik. Residents report that the turbine noise is perceived as unpredictable, they never know when it will come, how long it will last and how it will be felt this time. Here are some statements:
“It seems to be shaking. I can sit on the sofa and feel it going on, and I can feel the vibration of the kitchen floor.”
"When it's the worst, I leave."
“Concentration drops and it's like a see-saw. “It is amplified because of the noise.”
In terms of differences between residents and those living in comparable municipalities, the report shows that people living near wind turbines have more sleep problems, muscle aches and headaches/migraines than elsewhere. “My illnesses got worse. I care about sleep and relaxation. I take more medications than I need," the source says in the report.
