Oslofjord-tunnelen closed for four days in March
The reason the tunnel will be closed for four days for the exercise is to ensure training larger number crews. It is also possible to enable all fire brigade teams in the area, as well as the road traffic control centers of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, to participate.
– We apologize for the inconvenience to road users, but as a result the emergency services are better prepared to deal with the incident in the Oslofjord Tunnel, says Anine Kalmo Larsen, Tunnel Practical Manager and Head of Operations. fire protection at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
Full-scale exercises
In the Oslofjord tunnel rescue services will carry out the so-called full-scale exercises. This means that the exercise takes place in a tunnel where a planned scenario is played out to practice the set training goals. Full-scale exercises are to be as realistic as possible and carried out in real time.
– This time we do not want to describe the scenario in advance, but hide it from the crews. They should feel that the situation is as close to realistic as possible, says Anine Kalmo Larsen.
Practice makes perfect
There is a requirement and advisability to carry out regular exercises in road tunnels. The main objectives of the exercise are to inform emergency services about the current tunnel and its safety devices, to interact and communicate on trains, and to exercise skills and effort.
– There is something to the saying "practice makes perfect". Thanks to exercises, rescue services are better prepared to deal effectively and safely in the event of a real incident, says Larsen.
Companies that use the Oslofjord tunnel in their daily work will also take part in the exercises. Rescuers are also involved in all projects motor vehicles and contractors of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
