The Oslofjord Tunnel will be closed for four days in March for emergency preparedness exercises. This will make emergency services better prepared to handle incidents in the tunnel.
Due to the exercises, the Oslofjord tunnel will be closed from 10.00 a.m. to 14.00 p.m. on March 4, March 5, March 6 and March 14.
These closures take place in addition to normal night closures for tunnel operations and maintenance.

The reason the tunnel will be closed for four days for the exercise is to ensure training larger number crews. It is also possible to enable all fire brigade teams in the area, as well as the road traffic control centers of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, to participate.

Full-scale exercises
In the Oslofjord tunnel rescue services will carry out the so-called full-scale exercises. – This time we do not want to describe the scenario in advance, but hide it from the crews. They should feel that the situation is as close to realistic as possible, says Anine Kalmo Larsen.
Practice makes perfect
There is a requirement and advisability to carry out regular exercises in road tunnels. The main objectives of the exercise are to inform emergency services about the current tunnel and its safety devices, to interact and communicate on trains, and to exercise skills and effort.
– There is something to the saying “practice makes perfect”. Thanks to exercises, rescue services are better prepared to deal effectively and safely in the event of a real incident, says Larsen.
Companies that use the Oslofjord tunnel in their daily work will also take part in the exercises. Rescuers are also involved in all projects motor vehicles and contractors of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
