Łukasz Derdowski is a teacher from Poland who has been living in Norway with his wife for 6 years. A great man, a lecturer at the university in Stavanger, he teaches in three languages in two faculties and he learned Norwegian in 8 months!
Can be!
Łukasz is an amazing man who breaks all stereotypes about Poles abroad. He is not a builder or plumber, after graduating from university in Poland, he came to Norway, did his PhD, and now teaches at the university in Stavanger at two faculties: Hotel School and Faculty of Social Sciences. The subjects he teaches are research methodology, statistics and other light subjects.
Language is the key
During the conversation, Łukasz asked his interlocutor what needs to be done to get to the place where he is now. Łukasz replied that, first of all, you should know at least the basics of the Norwegian language. As a lecturer, he can speak three languages because he teaches in Norwegian, English and sometimes even Polish. Due to the fact that Łukasz sometimes lectures in our native language, our compatriots who do not speak Norwegian have the opportunity to develop in the same way as the rest of the students.

At the beginning of their history in Norway, the man and his wife lived in a completely different place than today. Before Łukasz started lecturing at the university, he knew that scientific knowledge was not everything. He had to know the language. Together with his wife, they took a very intensive course, thanks to which they learned Norwegian in 8 miesięcy. Sitting after 4-5 hours they returned home every day at school and continued their education to be on the level after eight months B2 and almost C1.
Ambition and goals
Łukasz is a very ambitious man who, although he has already achieved a lot, does not intend to rest on his laurels. His goal is to keep learning. He was given the opportunity to teach more subjects from the university, which he will teach from the next semester. Additionally, he wants to apply for habilitation, and later for the position of assistant professor.

Relationships with other teachers
During the conversation between the two Lukes, a question was asked about the relationship with other Norwegian teachers. Do you feel like a teacher or do you feel that you are treated differently because you are from Poland. The lecturer replied that he feels part of the environment because it is quite international and it is impossible to feel ill-treatment due to its origin.
All Poles living in Stavanger and not only are very proud of Łukasz and wish him further success!
