The end of the year is usually the time for summaries. The time when all companies, offices, universities, etc. verify the spending of their budget. It turns out that the University of Tromsø spent almost NOK 21,7 million on whatever events it managed to organize in 2018.

University of Tromsø and gigantic expenses

2018 promised to cut costs related to the administration of the University of Tromsø. It turns out that the reduction in spending in one branch of the university allowed him to spend more in another part of his activity. We mean the costs of the university representation and all special events. In total, the University of Tromsø has spent over NOK 21 million on play this year.

Great savings

The plans for 2018, which were presented by the representatives of the University, made it clear: this will be the year of SAVINGS. The goal was to save almost NOK 84 million. Actions that have been taken to achieve this include reducing expenditure on the development of university administration, but also reducing the number of employees.

Partying was more important

Dinners, numerous conferences, balls, business meetings, etc. have contributed to the University of Tromsø spending such a large amount of money as 21,7 million NOK. The head representative of the Norwegian human resources team at the University, Martin Martinsen Dahle, is very critical of the situation. He believes that the many cuts made by the University could have been avoided and not spent so much on the events.

University of Tromsø and its 50th anniversary

The Office of the Auditor General has been closely monitoring higher education institutions in many respects since 2015. One of those things is the budget and its spending. Unfortunately, this year, despite the fact that the University has made so many and considerable expenses on the organization of various events, it is understood and translated. Reason? One of the irrefutable arguments that explain the University is its 50th anniversary. Let us remind you that UiT was founded in 1968. University representatives inform that organizing such an undertaking is always associated with high costs.
