Recruitment until 2030

The CEO of Tide AS is echoed by the director NHS Transport - Jon H. Stordrange. According to his calculations, the entire transport sector will need around 1000 new drivers each year. The situation will not change until 2030. It points to two factors that will be decisive in terms of the growing demand for new drivers among urban carriers.

Age of current drivers

Jon H. Stordrange cites age as the main reason already employed drivers. For this reason, many current employees will retire each year, creating a vacant position. Carriers will look for their successors.

Growing demand

it will be more accessible for other reasons as well. According to the Norwegian government's declarations, measures will be taken to limit car traffic in the largest cities. This will contribute to an increase in the demand for urban transport services, which will be of benefit to carriers.

– “A zero-growth policy for car traffic in city centers will generate greater demand for urban transport services” – says Tide AS CEO for Nettavisen – “This trend will continue for a long time, which is why we also intend to employ young drivers,” he adds.

Autonomous vehicles will not endanger the sector

Technological development issues may raise some concerns autonomous vehicles. However, Roger Harkestad does not share these objections. In his opinion work for bus drivers in Norway it will not remain fully automated for a long time. The president of Tide AS estimates that it will only take place in a few decades.

– “People who start working for us today have a guaranteed place working for long" - says Harkestad for Nettavisen – “Even if only autonomous buses appear in the industry, the human factor will still be key in transport services,” he adds.
