Norway is the first to abolish cash payments. We recently talked about Telenor in the context of the 5G network, which is becoming increasingly important in Norway. The company constantly surprises with innovative ideas "from the future". Today we also want to talk about new technologies. There is more and more talk in Norway about the total abolition of cash payments. Will Norway be the first country to take this step?

Cashless payments in Norway - the way to change

Berit Svendsen, former director of Telenor (today head of the foreign electronic payment system Vipps) believes that Norway will be the first or one of the first to opt out of cash payments altogether. She spoke about it during the annual meeting of the financial industry in Oslo. This year, during conferences, lectures and talks with specialists, a lot of emphasis was placed on the technologies of the future.

Modern technologies in Norway - Scandinavians are the precursors of new trends

Berit Svendsen in her speech drew attention to the fact that Norway absorbs everything that is innovative. The pace of development is instant:

“There is no doubt about that. Today we are one of the best in the world in internet technologies, we have some of the best mobile systems in the world, we are also a leader in electronic payment systems. Thus, Norway may become one of the first countries to abandon the use of cash. "

Norway is the first to abolish cash payments. What else needs to be worked on?

To make it not so colorful, Berit Svendsen also mentioned sections where modifications are still necessary:

“What we're not good at yet is making companies better. We must build international success in the FinTech area today. We have to go out and show ourselves to attract international capital, which in turn will be invested in FinTech ”(FinTech - the term means any digital financial service - editorial note).

Information and Communication Technologies (IKT) - hope for the future

Norway is the first to abolish cash payments. Education in Norway

Investment in information and communication technology is very important. It is becoming more and more important in many professions: police, financial, medical, commercial and transport industries.

To sum up!

There should also be an emphasis on education in Norway - especially young people and people entering the labor market. Young people who "sucked their love for digitization out of their mother's milk" are hope for the future, they are a gateway to development.
