The flu epidemic continues. Throughout the country, the number of patients is constantly increasing. Compared to recent years, influenza A has never been so widespread.

Flu epidemic

The number of people suffering from flu is growing rapidly, the phenomenon has been going on for several weeks. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health informs that in the last week of 2018, many people with flu symptoms reported to their doctors. The number of positive virus samples increased from 7 to 10%. According to the NIZP, the flu epidemic will reach its peak in early or mid February.

Flu and its symptoms

The flu often comes on suddenly and usually lasts for seven to ten days. Underestimating its symptom can lead to many undesirable complications. Therefore, if we are struggling with a dry or wet cough, muscle pain, body weakness and fever, which, contrary to appearances, does not always have to accompany us during the disease, we should immediately see a doctor.

Influenza A virus

The most widespread influenza virus this year is type A. Contrary to the last two years, it is expected that the most people will be infected this year. The flu most often affects children, but also people of working age.

How can flu be dealt with?

Unfortunately, there is still no quick therapy that would allow us to beat the flu in an easy and pleasant way. Adequate medications, hydration of the body, painkillers and antipyretics are the only way to deal with the disease. During the flu, we should rest a lot and not underestimate its appearance. We should not avoid visiting a doctor with the belief that we will do it on our own. You should also remember about the others. When we get sick, we should limit contact with other people, cough into a handkerchief and wash our hands often. If we are afraid of getting infected, we should also get vaccinated.

Record number of vaccinations

According to the latest research, this year already 494,179 people have been vaccinated against the flu. This is a record number because it is more than during the entire flu season last year. The vaccine protects against various types of flu viruses. Unfortunately, from year to year flu viruses develop new variants, and therefore our resistance to older varieties decreases. That is why regular vaccination is so important.
