More and more often you hear about school bans on using cell phones by students. It turns out that, according to many experts, it is against human law and illegal.
Prohibition of using telephones in school
Such a ban is an increasingly common phenomenon. Many schools prohibit the use of phones during lessons. Teachers notice a lack of interest in the lesson topic when students have access to a phone. Games, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and many other applications make virtual life more important than school. A survey was conducted at UiT in which over 1000 students participated. It turns out that every fourth the person is prohibited from using phones at school.

"Mobile Hotels"
Due to the ban on using telephones at school, many institutions are introducing "mobile hotels". It is nothing more than a place where students' phones are kept while they spend their time in school lessons. The devices are handed over by the students every morning before the class and returned again after the end of the class. Professor of the law department at UiT Marius Storvik, believes that such behavior of schools in Norway is an interference with the privacy of students, which is protected by the constitution.

Have the students agreed to this?
Professor Storvik advises NRK that schools may ban the use of telephones during lessons and breaks, and may provide storage for Mobile Hotels devices, but only under one condition. The most important thing is that students agree not to use their phones. If the facility does not obtain such consent, it cannot impose its own private prohibition. Unfortunately, the students' consent to ban the use of telephones is highly questionable. There is currently no law in Norway that would allow schools to make such independent decisions.

School regulations and the prohibition of using telephones
Doris Amland, the communication director of Norwegian education and training, informs that the prohibition of using telephones should be included in the school regulations. If any point in this document presents such a ban and the regulations have been accepted, the facility has the right to introduce an internal ban. Doris Amland also advises that such situations be dealt with locally with the attention of students and their parents.
