The electric car in Norway has become a highly sought-after product over the past few years. Unfortunately, still a lot of people refrain from buying it. Why?

What works against the purchase?

The phenomenon of higher sales without emission cars in Norway has been observed for several years. There is no secret that range is a very important element of this type of vehicle. Too short, it causes many potential buyers to postpone this decision until later. New owners of an electric car are often surprised at how short a distance they can cover with a given vehicle with a fully charged battery. It also often happens that the supplier in its offer informs about many benefits of owning this type of car, and the reality turns out to be completely different. The unrealistic method of measuring the NEDC has not been very successful, but the new WLTP method is set to change that.

Coverage is the most important thing!

In 2018, at the beginning of autumn, the election agency TNS Kantar conducted a survey. The purpose of its implementation was to find out what is the main reason for refusing to buy an electric car? It turns out with over 2000 peopleto those who were asked this question, more than half replied that the main reason that distracted them from purchasing decisions was its short range.

What else is holding us back?

Of course, there are many other factors that influence the decision not to buy an electric car. What kind? The rest of the survey participants reported, inter alia, the following:

  • the electric car does not meet my expectations,
  • I am not convinced of the characteristics of an electric car in winter,
  • charging takes too long
  • there is no home charging option,
  • I think that the economic incentives of the state to buy this type of vehicle have disappeared,
  • There aren't many places where I can charge my vehicle on the routes it travels

What about the price of an electric car?

Still, not everyone can afford such a car. The price of this type of vehicle is still a very important reason for not making a decision about its purchase.

Positive vision

The Norwegian authorities intend to ensure that the current economic incentives that accompany the purchase of an electric car remain so. The plan also includes planning and setting up more vehicle charging points. In addition, it should be mentioned that when it comes to the range of such cars, more and more manufacturers are starting to pay attention to it. Examples include the Audi e-tron, the Jaguar I-Place, as well as Mercedes and its EQC model. Unfortunately, the prices of these vehicles still leave a lot to be desired.
