On February 4, we celebrate World Cancer Day. In Poland, oncological treatment does not look good, and although the number of registered people in comparison with other European countries is falling, the mortality rate in our country is one of the highest.

A person suffering from cancer in Poland has less chance of survival

In Poland, the number of registered people suffering from cancer is decreasing year by year, but the mortality rate in our country is still one of the highest. In the end, only Hungarians and Croats are ahead of us. Why is this happening? Does this mean that our doctors treat poorly and that a person with cancer has very little chance of survival? It would seem that the main reason will be money, or rather the lack of it. Nothing could be more wrong because it turns out that even the National Cancer Registry does not collect a sufficient amount of complete and reliable data and therefore we do not have the appropriate knowledge to treat people.

TNM scale

The TNM scale is a specific primer for every doctor dealing with cancer patients. It was first introduced by Union for International Cancer Control and has been continuously updated ever since. What can we find there? First of all, the scale of the cancer stage, which is necessary for us when choosing the type of treatment. On January 1, 2019, a regulation on the scope of data transferred to the National Health Fund was to be introduced in Poland. The aim of the regulation was to report each case of cancer and diagnose it according to the TNM scale. At the moment, the regulation has not come into force and in fact nobody knows when it will happen.

It is already the 19th World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day was established at the 2000 World Cancer Summit. Since then, we have been celebrating this day every February 4 to remind ourselves of the great scale of the problem. The cancer incidence is growing every year. In 2014, 14 million cases of cancer were detected, and in 2000 there were 4 million fewer. In Poland, the number of malignant neoplasm incidence has doubled in the last 30 years. Cancer of the colon, stomach, lungs and breast is the most common cause of death in Poland, it is responsible for 40 thousand. deaths annually.

Prevention is essential

A very important element in the fight against cancer is regular self-examination and prevention. Doctors urge you not to be afraid to test because often only in this way are we able to prevent the development of the disease. Cytology, mammography and colonoscopy are just a few tests that we should undergo regularly to prevent the worst.

February 4 is World Cancer Day. How do they treat in Poland, what type of cancer is the most dangerous and what is the TNM scale. Find out in the article above!
