Ryanair flights

The Italian competition authority decided to penalize two low-cost airlines, Ryanair and WizzAir, for changing baggage policy. Both companies decided that only small luggage can be carried free of charge on board the plane. The total amount of the fine will be EUR 4 million.

New baggage policy

Both airlines introduced new baggage policies on November 1, 2018. The main change concerns the fact that only small luggage can stay on board the plane free of charge, which, most importantly, will fit under the seat. The Italian competition authority found that these actions "mislead customers about the correct ticket price." As a result of the entire incident, Ryanair was fined EUR 3 million and WizzAir EUR 1 million.
