Ryanair flights

The Italian competition authority decided to penalize two low-cost airlines, Ryanair and WizzAir, for changing baggage policy. Both companies decided that only small luggage can be carried free of charge on board the plane. The total amount of the fine will be EUR 4 million.

New baggage policy

Both airlines introduced a new baggage policy as of November 1, 2018. The main change is that only small luggage can stay free of charge on the plane, which, most importantly, will fit under the seat. The Italian competition authority found that these actions "mislead customers as to the correct ticket price". As a result of the entire incident, Ryanair was fined EUR 3 million, and WizzAir EUR 1 million.
