The search operation has been scaled back and a search is currently underway for the presumed dead.
“So long has passed now that finding them alive becomes less and less likely. Therefore, we are looking for the alleged dead. We searched huge areas for no missing persons. It is unlikely that anyone will be found alive. Police chief Svein Valland Laupsa said shortly after 21 p.m. on Monday.
Two men and a woman were reported missing on Sunday night after trying to cross the Tokagjelselva in a small boat right above a large waterfall with a 15m drop.
A boat, oars, and some clothes were found.
- The boat was found near a waterfall. "We're working on the hypothesis that all three fell into the waterfall with the current," said Laupsa.
On Monday afternoon, rescue dogs marked some spots by the water where the Movatnet River flows into the large Hardangerfjord.
- Divers are in the process of investigating where the dogs have marked. We also examined some of the objects at the top of the waterfall, but it did not produce any concrete results, Laupsa said.

In a press conference on Tuesday morning, police revealed the names of three people who were believed to have died in Kvam on Sunday night.
Kjell Arne Pedersen (64), Nils Johan Bårdsen (72) and Ruth Wathne (68) are believed to have died. On Monday evening, the police made it clear that there was no longer any hope of finding the three missing alive.
