What is AAP (arbeidsavklaringspenger) and when can I apply for AAP money?
This AAP is a support program that will provide you with income if you need Nav help to get back to work due to illness or injury. To be eligible for AAP your working capacity must be reduced by at least 50 percent. The recipient must find it together with Nav good solutions for returning to work.
Is AAP money income?
We divide the calculation basis by 260 (number of working days in a year). This is your daily rate. AAP is taxed as earned income and entitles you to a pension. Read more about tax breaks and benefits from NAV.
How many years can you receive AAP?
How long you can receive money from AAP depends on your need to pursue a work-oriented business or undergo treatment to return to work. Benefit period will therefore vary from person to person. From 1 January 2018 the rule applies that benefit may be granted for a period of up to 3 years. AAP benefit is 66% of your income in the last year before you became ill, or the average of the last three years before you became ill. When can you apply for AAP money?
You can receive AAP from the moment your benefit ended sick leave. You must apply for AAP yourself in good time before your entitlement to sick pay is exercised. Your ability to work must be limited in all types of work for which you are qualified. You need treatment to improve your ability to work or NAV assistance in maintaining or finding a job. Generally, you must have been a member of the National Insurance Scheme for at least 5 years. You are between 18 and 67 years old. If your sickness benefit period is coming to an end, we recommend that you enter into a dialogue with NAV.
How to calculate what money you can get from AAP?
You will get 66% of the calculation base, which is at least 2G, or NOK 176. If you earned NOK 740 the year before you fell ill, you will receive benefit for dismissal will be 350 x 000 = 0,66 per year. It was agreed that 231 working days per year and 000 working days per week would be counted.
AAP money can be withdrawn when you are:
- during active treatment
- the implementation of work-oriented activities
- while trying to work
- under observation with NAV after treatment and trial of remedies
You can also get money:
- during the preparation of the lesson plan
- pending active treatment or work-oriented measure
- up to three months when applying for a job after surgery or treatment
- for up to eight months while the disability application is being examined
- for a period of up to six months if you become unfit for work due to illness without obtaining a new entitlement to sickness benefit
- if, as a student, you need active treatment to resume your studies, and during your illness you are not entitled to a scholarship from the Loan Fund

Live in Norway
Be between 18 and 67 years of age
If approved in the action plan, you may receive an allowance:
- for treatment abroad
- to participate in work-oriented initiatives abroad
- on a temporary basis stays abroad, as long as this does not impede the agreed activity
If you want to keep your benefits while temporarily abroad, you must apply for this in advance. Stays for border shall not constitute an obstacle to observation and control by NAV.
