Moose landing on a train in Hamar
On Thursday evening, when a moving train stopped at Hamar station, travelers had the opportunity to see the gruesome sight of the bloody front of the train. Many people, NRK reports, were deeply shocked at the sight of blood that seemed to be everywhere. The whole situation is simply a consequence of a collision of a game, i.e. a moose, with a moving vehicle.
A big problem
It turns out that the problem of the increasing mortality of animals that die as a result of a collision with a moving train, increases. The months of January and February are the time when most game is hit by running trains in Norway. 2018 was a record year because twice as many of the above-mentioned accidents than the 10-year average. Now, however, there is a visible decline, because from 1 to 21 January there were 689 such cases, where compared to last year and the same period, there were as many as 1174.

The psyche of the drivers suffers from this
According to Rolf Ringdal, Leader of the Norwegian Locomotive Society, each such accident is a strong psychological burden for the driver. He especially pays attention to the moment when the animal is still alive and the driver cannot stop the vehicle because he has to complete the course. He recalls that until a few years ago the trains were equipped with weapons that allowed to shorten the torment of this game. Currently, however, the regulations have become more stringent and this is no longer possible. As we can read in NRK, however, Rolf Ringdal is pleased with the significant drop in the number of accidents.
