Late in the evening, on Tuesday, November 26, a very serious leak occurred in Bergen. This leak was caused by a failure of the water and sewage installation. As a result, nearly 750 liters of water leaked. Water flooded mainly the E39 road. Damage caused by a water leak may even result in the road collapsing. Work is currently underway to pump out the remaining water and, at a later stage, completely dry it. However, it is not known whether this action will be successful. Water leak in Bergen: evacuation of residents
The leak in Bergen poses a threat not only to the already existing E39 road, but also to local residents. As part of the safety measures taken, a decision was made to evacuate 58 residents of the area. The threat was, inter alia, the formation of landslides. Traffic on the route that passes the E39 road is still very difficult. Security services, including the police, appeal to the residents to stay at home, if possible, until the situation is under control.
Bergen plumbing failure: health hazard
The difficulties that occurred on the E39 road and in the area where the route runs are not the only threats caused by a huge water leak. The sanitary inspectorate warns that as a result of the failure, problems with the availability of drinking water may occur. Nearly 2000 people received a notification warning against drinking tap water without boiling it first. This warning is valid until appropriate tests are carried out that will finally exclude the presence of substances harmful to health and life in tap water. Additionally, Bergen residents were informed about possible problems related to the availability of water in taps. There may also be problems with maintaining the appropriate pressure. For now, however, it is not known how long these disruptions will last.
