1562 - Massacre of the Huguenots. Prince Francis de Guise stayed at Wassy in northeastern France. It was then that a conflict broke out between Catholics and Huguenots. The genesis of the problem is unknown. There are several theories, here are a few. De Guise, a staunch opponent of Protestants, ordered his people to attack the dissenters. Listening to another version of events, we will learn that the Huguenots were the trouble spot: they threw stones at the Catholics and were the first to fire at them. In this massacre, more than 60 Huguenots were killed and over 100 injured.
