Many firefighting teams worked on site. Thanks to the quick reaction and intense activity of the services, the main structure of the cathedral, the western facade of the temple, was saved. The fire did not reach the cathedral vaults, where there are relics of great importance for Catholics. Among them, among others: the fragment of the cross on which Christ was crucified, the nail used during the crucifixion and the crown of thorns.
Let us note that these are the only relics so important for the Christian world that are kept outside the Vatican and Italy. Unfortunately, the renovation of the cathedral will certainly take quite a long time.
