For some time now, a lot has been said about the liquidation of the fur industry in many parts of Europe. Recently, the Germans decided to abandon farms. Now Norway also came out with the same intention. The changes are to come into force in 6 years, and more precisely in 2025. However, not everyone supports these changes. How were the votes of Parliament distributed?

– what do the MPs say?

On February 1, 2025, fur farms will disappear. The law was adopted after several hours of debate. 101 members of parliament voted in favor of this law. 68 MPs were against. The Center Party is on there. The Venstre Liberals are happy about this turn of events. Guri Melby, a parliamentarian from the Venstre (V) party - in an interview with the NTB news agency he emphatically emphasized:

“It's a happy day for animals. For 17 years we have been actively fighting to improve their well-being. I am deeply disappointed with the position of the Labor Party (Ap). Their program includes a prohibition on the operation of fur farms and for years they have been saying that they are fighting for the welfare of animals. Today, however, they stood shoulder to shoulder with Senterpartiet (Sp) and voted against the ban. "

Liquidation of fur farms - the amount of compensation

. Opponents of the liquidation of the fur industry presented arguments that the state was not ready to pay compensation to the fur industry. They emphasized that this was not a good time for such changes. As of today, it is estimated that the liquidation of the farms will cost at least CZK 2,3 billion, which is an amount significantly higher than government forecasts. What will the actual amounts be? We'll find out in the future.
