Nattevisen has carried out a special food test in Norway in recent weeks. During the study, small and large chains were taken into account - local discounters and national supermarkets. The results are surprising: it turns out that we can reduce expenses by up to 50% rationally and carefully when shopping. How are the results? See for yourself!

Food price test in Norway - what was put under the scrutiny?

All the test lasted two weeks – Nettavisen and Enhver conducted two price tests in ten grocery chains. The research was carried out in stores of the seven largest chains grocery stores in Norway, as well as in three local store chains: Joker, Bunnpris and Matkroken. The tests covered the prices of 64 goods in total. The results allowed us to observe large differences in prices between the cheapest Rema 1000, and local stores: small, often family businesses.

Food price test in Norway - results

So let's take a look at the results:

  • the most expensive is the Joker (on average 31 percent more than the Rema 1000),
  • Bunnpris more expensive by 26 percent,
  • Matkroken by 24 percent.

31% of the difference in monthly expenses is a really big difference that can significantly affect, among others, families with children.

. The source of price differences!

Harald Kristiansen, communications manager at Coop, the network that owns the network local Coop stores Marked and Matkroken and the Extra and Obs discount chains emphasize that the differences may be the result of expensive operation in a given store. Maintenance costs and warehouses are sometimes huge:

“Local shops are very important for smaller districts or settlements located outside city centers. Of course, the operating costs of such stores and their maintenance will always be higher than those of discount stores. Why do you think Rema doesn't have stores outside the central districts?” - conversation with Nattevisen.

. How to buy sparingly?

  • make a shopping list - only buy products from the "magic card",
  • if you can, buy in smaller stores - we guarantee you will leave with fewer products,
  • pay in cash - the card is convenient, but also illusory - contactless transactions, BLIKI, we buy more often and more - we lose control over expenses,
  • determine and spend monthly on living and shopping - stick to it.

And where do you shop? Do you pay attention to prices? We are waiting for your opinions.
