. There has been a huge wave across Europe recently hot weather. Norway was also present. Therefore, disturbing information reaches us. Norway only has water reserves for a few hours. What can be done about this problem? The Norwegian Food Safety Authority looks for solutions and proposes effective solutions.

No drinking water reserve and risk of penalties!

The important information is that the municipality of Oslo must very quickly decide to create an alternative source of drinking water supply. The city is threatened with gigantic penalties. Services responsible for water supply and wastewater treatment in Oslo (Vann- og avløpsetaten). They already have the official letter in their hands. Mattilsynet is threatening fines of one million kronor a day. Establishing an alternative drinking water intake is imperative.

Real obligations of the commune

“The Norwegian Food Safety Authority is asking the municipality of Oslo, no later than November 20 this year, to take the necessary investment decisions to create a reserve drinking water intake by January 1, 2028. Failure to meet the deadlines will result in the imposition of daily penalties. " -we can read in the document from Mattilsynet. The penalty of one million kronor will be charged and will apply daily from November 21, unless the municipality of Oslo complies with the requirements imposed on it.

Oslo's drinking water intakes - what does it look like now?

The people of Oslo are now supplied with drinking water from the water treatment plants in Oset and Skullerud. It is worth mentioning here that this is about 90 percent of Oslo's total water supply. The water is taken from the Maridalsvannet. What about the remaining 10%? They are complemented by the Skulleruduz Intake. In this case, the water is taken from Lake Elvåga.

The situation is serious - the problem cannot be underestimated!

What does Kolle say about it?

“The consequences of potential water supply disruptions for Oslo could be very serious. This means that something will happen to the Oset treatment plant or to the water intake at Maridalsvannet, so that the people of Oslo will be deprived of access to drinking water. The current contingency solutions allow water to be delivered only to part of Oslo city center and only for a few hours. "

What can we residents do? Save water? Encourage others to save.
