Pole in Norway

Marcin

He worked in the field for 8 years as a seasonal worker. 3 years as a production worker in Bergen. Currently unemployed.

In Norway, he is pissed off by the weather, but who does not piss off…? 😉

Hard to find today work in Norway?

It's hard. Especially in my case, because I have no profession.

And do you see yourself in a particular plot or industry?

I do not know. At the moment I am looking for any job. I will get hold of everything, even construction work, although I do not know anything about it at all.

Well, but if you had a whole range of professions to choose from, without limits, here in Norway - who would you like to be?

I never really thought about it.

You have no dreams?

Well, I have… I could, for example, be a computer game tester (laughs).

So you play in your spare time?

Yes, yes I play. I have a PlayStation and I listen to constant complaints from my girlfriend (laughs).

And this is the only way to spend your free time in Norway?

No, absolutely not the only one. I like extreme sports, but access to them is expensive here, so I haven't done anything for a long time.

You left Poland when you were only 16 years old Norwegian sowing and harvesting season. Even today it's Norway for me is an exotic country in many respects - were you surprised by anything when you came here?

First of all, I was surprised by the Norwegian mentality, and the approach to people was much warmer. They did not look, so to speak, from under the bull. They were looking for a contact. They tried to talk to us.

And negative feelings?

No, probably just the weather (laughs).

And the money for half a year seasonal work were they good in the field?

Although we did not earn much there at the beginning, it was a huge amount of money for a Polish teenager. For half a year spent in Poland, I had a forehead!

Did you have any special investments in this Norwegian money?

It was money to support myself. But for the pleasure of the more selfish; I did a license and bought my first car.

And today; happy expat?

Happy yes. If I had to choose today, I'd rather live here than in Poland. Besides, it is about money, and it is always about money. Money is good in emigration, especially here.

Okay, let's assume a hypothetical situation - you hit Norsktiping 30 million today...! You stay in Norway, are you going back to your country?

Of course, I automatically return to my country! Besides, with this money, not much can happen here, and in Poland it is a completely different pair of wellies!

Have you encountered discrimination in Norway?

Yes, at work, for example. In fact, there was only one Norwegian in my entire history here, but fiercely disliking Poles, or maybe no one at all (laughs). He kept telling us that he had lost and lost millions due to poorly working Poles.

And that's the character of a person or nationality, what do you think?

Definitely a man, because my ex-boss is a specific specimen!

Advice for all those who are just reading the interview and are packing their bags to Norway?

First of all, you need to understand official matters. Because then only the troubles: and this is too much tax collected on the first salary, and these are problems without a personal number. And asking, it is worth asking and not to get discouraged because we like to scare others away.
