Do you live in Norway? Or maybe you are planning to move here? What will you face at the start? Different customs, mentality and culture. We are similar, and yet… we are so beautifully different. Many of us feel uncomfortable moving here at first. Over time, however, our Norwegian friends and colleagues may even become our friends. What do we like Norwegians for? What are their positive qualities?

What do we like Norwegians for? Honesty, morality and good habits

Norwegians expect certain moral principles from themselves and those who govern the state. They're not very talkative to strangers, but that's not because they're rude - they just show honestly when they don't feel like talking. According to the good habits of the Norwegians, it is not proper to disturb others - that is, to chat with strangers aimlessly. As a rule, foreigners find it difficult to establish relations with them, but when they do, turn out to be warm and affectionate people. They do not accept breaking the law and dishonesty, which both increases the quality of life in the country due to the extremely low level of crime, and makes social life better. There is also a belief in the society of equality, especially in terms of gender. While in Poland it might seem simply unpleasant not to let a woman through the door, such a gesture in Norway shows respect and equality for a person, regardless of gender.

What are our Norwegian friends like?

Getting friends is not that hard!

While it is difficult to establish relationships with completely strangers, it is worth looking for groups of people who share common interests. Many associations and social groups focused on a given hobby or subject are happy to welcome new people to their groups. Norwegians in a harmonious company show a lot more emotion and show a sense of humor. Moreover, communities in the north of the country are statistically more open and spontaneous.

Neighborly help is another proof of kindness and the additional possibility of acquiring friends. Helping your neighbors is rooted in customs. In blocks of flats or housing estates, neighbors often show joint initiatives for the benefit of the entire community. They are people willing to help - but you should also give something from yourself. Usually it starts with cleaning together and taking care of the shared living area, also with small neighborhood favors, and often ends with casual conversations over coffee and a cake. It is worth looking for friends and allies among the neighbors.

Comfort at work and in the professional sphere

Norwegians value their colleagues. Group duties relieve individual people from excessive, tiring work. A person who does not feel ready to take on a professional task - may refuse without risk of criticism. Frequent meetings and discussions on professional topics deepen in people the feeling that we mean something in the corporate community. Communication is informal and it often happens that we even call the boss "You". The management ensures the safety of employees by adjusting the equipment to strict health and safety rules, there is equality ensuring equal gender division in supervisory positions. Our superiors also respect our private time, we are under no obligation to answer phone calls or reply to e-mails outside of working hours.
