Bahamas and Hurricane Dorian - the scale of the losses!

  Let us recall that Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas in early September. Losses amounting to USD 3,4 billion were calculated, i.e. equal to 1/4 of the country's GDP. The number of confirmed fatalities is 67, but the fate of 282 people is still unknown. As a result of this incredible tragedy, 29,5 thousand people lost their homes or jobs. Many residents had to leave their homes and look for other shelter. It is worth noting that even though two months have passed since the incident, many of the injured still live in tents - without permanent access to water and electricity. It is estimated that repairing the losses will take up to several years. The Bahamas and Hurricane Dorian are one of the biggest disasters in this region. 

 

Bahamas and Hurricane Dorian - losses in concrete numbers

The greatest damage is observed on the islands of Grand Abaco (almost 90%) and Grand Bahama. Experts have estimated that the range of losses in these two places is really huge and totaling $ 2,5 billion. It is worth noting that 9 thousand. houses and 7 schools. Losses related to production and services were estimated at USD 717 million, and the costs of removing oil pollution from the sea and fragments of damaged structures at USD 221 million.
