Unfortunately, problems related to violence among minors are becoming more and more visible in some Norwegian schools. There is physical and psychological violence - the victims are primarily lower-class students who do not meet the expectations of the "aggressor". The Ombudsman for Children is deeply concerned about this situation. First of all, he draws attention to the large discrepancies. Some schools are only successful. Others are fighting a wave of complaints and incidents of intimidation. What are the causes of these discrepancies? Can they be prevented in any way? Let's take a closer look at this matter. Can we do something? How should teachers respond?

The regulations have changed since 2017. All cases of school violence must be reported to the starost. Everything has to be documented. A total of 2017 cases were reported from August 2018 to June 1416. In 791 cases, schools failed to take preventive measures.

Intimidation is the wrong word, it's an explosion in bullying. When schools notice an incident of bullying, they are required to draw up an action plan. The action plan must include the following points: what problem needs to be solved, what the school has planned and when the measures will be implemented.

From the beginning, from the first grade, students and teachers have additional hours related to this topic. They can talk honestly about their doubts. Such conversations connect and give a sense of community. To sum up. Schools in Norway should follow the example of Trondheim. Children's safety is a priority.
