Coronavirus in Norway- How to proceed?

How serious is Covid-19 disease?

  • Most people have mild cold-like symptoms and heal after a few days or weeks.
  • Some may have more severe symptoms, including pneumonia and difficulty breathing.
  • It is a disease that can lead to death.
  • Most of the people who have died are the elderly and those who have been seriously ill before. Healthy people can also become seriously ill and die from Covid-19 disease.
  • Some are even likely to be infected without knowing it. They have no symptoms or are very mild. These people can still infect others, so it's important that everyone helps contain the infection by washing their hands, not coughing or sneezing into the air, covering their face.

What should I do if I think I am infected?

  • If you suspect you are infected with covid-19, you should stay home and call your GP or emergency room. Ambulance number is 116117. And the Oslo Health Service Directorate's inquiry number is 815 55 015.
  • Your doctor or health care professional will tell you what to do next.

Is there a treatment procedure for Covid-19 disease?

  • Covid-19 is a viral disease and there is no treatment procedure that cures viral diseases.
  • Some people infected with covid-19 have a bacterial infection in addition to a viral infection. Bacterial infections can usually be treated with antibiotics.
  • Most heal after a few days or weeks.
  • Otherwise, the same advice applies as for a cold. Stay calm, make sure you drink enough and take your usual pain and fever relievers.

Who should be tested for the coronavirus?

Close contacts must be abandoned. What are close contacts and how should they be limited?

Here criteria determining who is defined as "close contacts" and "low risk contacts" - and how to prevent them.

What are the procedures for taking a coronavirus test?

The sampling procedures differ depending on the municipality. Make an appointment with your local health service.
Remember that you shouldn't go to the doctor, but call him or her if you think you might be infected.

How long does it take to get a response to the coronavirus test?

Those who are tested will receive answers as soon as possible. In most cases, it takes one to two days to collect a sample. Healthcare does not have a "specific deadline" for test responses, and in some cases this may take a while as there are many samples to be tested in the same laboratory.
Many laboratories now perform analyzes at full capacity so that everyone who is tested gets answers as quickly as possible.
