People outside the Nordic countries who come to Oslo airport have to turn back and go home. Ullensaker Municipality receives support from the military to enforce the rules.
In a press release Friday night, Ullensaker Municipality writes that measures have been tightened significantly at the airport after the government introduced new travel restrictions to prevent coronavirus infection.
From now on, all foreign travelers from outside the Nordic countries arriving at Oslo airport they will have to turn around and go home.
"We're not closing borders," Mayor Eyvind Schumacher told the NTB.
They got help from the army
On Friday evening, the commune asked the military for help in enforcing the restrictions.
- People need to report on quarantine laws. We also need help to redirect visitors. The municipality cannot do it alone.
- The proposal includes several measures and we must be prepared to extend the restrictions in the near future.
These are mainly foreigners who do not have an address in Norway, no place subject to quarantine for 14 days, these people will be sent back to their home country. Healthy travelers who cannot be sent home the same day will be accommodated in hotels until the following day.
Foreign travelers with symptoms of illness will be screened at the LHL hospital in the municipality and placed in solitary confinement for 14 days. Norwegian travelers should return home and proceed to the 14-day home quarantine immediately.
"There are special times right now, so police will send backup when Ullensaker and Avinor municipalities need help with admission control," he says.
We have closed borders
Ullensaker Municipality provides healthcare to travelers at Oslo Airport and therefore the municipality is responsible for complying with the new travel restrictions.
- It is very important for this to happen. Oslo airport is an international hub and travelers rely on adequate and good information from health authorities, says airport director Stine Ramstad Westby.
On Friday, Denmark announced that it would close the country's borders to foreigners from Saturday at 12 noon. The chairman of the Oslo city council, Raymond Johansen, is asking Norway to act like the Danes. Frps Sylvi Listhaug claims the same.
