Home quarantine

When you are in home quarantine, you should also stay at home for as long as possible. Don't go to school or work. You should also not be on long journeys at home or abroad, or use public transport.

Avoid places where it's hard to keep your distance, and generally don't look for public places such as shops, pharmacies, and cafes. In the absence of an alternative, you can go out to do the necessary purchases in the store.

But stay 1-2 meters away from others and avoid queues.

You can go outside, but keep a good distance from others.

It is important to monitor if they occur symptoms . In case of fever or respiratory symptoms, stay home.

Quarantined children must not come into contact with other children outside the home.

The bottom line is that you shouldn't infect others until you've developed symptoms yourself, but it must also be practically doable.

On March 20, the government imposed a ban on staying overnight outside of its commune. Read more about it on the government website

The exception is people in quarantine who live with a family member who is in isolation with the detected coronavirus.

House insulation

If you've been diagnosed with the coronavirus, you must be isolated.

This means that you have to stay home all the time and not go out. Ideally you should stay two meters away from those you live with and have your own room and bathroom if possible. Use your own bathroom items, including your own towel.

You need to be careful with hand hygiene and coughing so as not to risk infecting others in your home. Cleaning your house often is also important, especially in places you visit frequently.

Those with whom you live should be quarantined.

Isolation continues until a doctor determines you are contagious, usually 7 days after you are completely healed. The Institute of Public Health (FHI) has information on the criteria for the removal of isolation.

Stress relievers in quarantine and isolation

Being in home quarantine and/ or isolation can be a stressful situation. There is often anxiety, tension, irritation, restlessness and difficulty concentrating. Many become sad, feel lonely, or have trouble sleeping. For most, however, the quarantine and isolation period will go well and any psychosocial reactions will be temporary.

When someone is placed in home quarantine or in isolation, everyday life changes for the whole family. It is not possible to go to work, school, kindergarten or meet others in the same way as before. This often results in less physical activity, eating less regularly, and possibly a lot more sleep than normal. Most will spend most of their time in front of the TV.

Good advice for people in quarantine.

Check your messages, but don't worry

There is a lot of important information and helpful advice, but over-focusing on news updates can take up too much space in your daily life and cause you worry. If you want to stay informed, use reliable sources such as National Institute of Public Health and website health Norway and Wataha.no.

. Create an atmosphere during the day

In a domestic situation, it becomes important to create new procedures. Try to maintain a normal circadian rhythm. For many, school and work contribute to the routine, meaning and safety of everyday life. Find possible ways to do your job if you work from home. It's also nice to be active through your hobby.

Provide daily doses of physical activity and daylight

Living in quarantine is easily characterized by a sedentary indoor lifestyle. Physical activity, walks in nature and daylight have a positive effect on the psyche and sleep. For outdoor activities, follow the recommendations of your health authority.

Maintain social contact

Even if you are in home quarantine or in isolation, you can chat with others via social media and the phone. Make regular calls to stay in touch, for example with family, friends, and colleagues.

Good advice for children, adolescents and families in quarantine or isolation

Younger and older children may have different reactions to being in home quarantine or isolation. Some may feel stressed, sad, scared, angry or irritated, while others do not feel the pain of being quarantined. Some parts of the body hurt in your stomach, head, or other parts of your body, and you may wonder if you are sick.

You may also be concerned that your parents or siblings are sick. All these feelings are common. And for most people, these reactions will be discussed. However, this can be a challenge for the whole family when everyday life changes in this way.

We know there are several things you can enjoy when you are quarantined as a family with children:

-Talk to the children

Children need clear information about why they are being quarantined or isolated and what they can do for themselves. It is important for children to know that they are making efforts to prevent quarantine infecting others. Ask what they are thinking and give clear answers. Remember that children understand more than you think. Children can also feel guilty about this situation or be very scared. Don't wait for them to come and ask you. Ask what they understand from the information and news and explain what they think about.

Security is contagious

When you are safe, your children will be safe. When children are scared, they need comfort and care. Take a deep breath and find peace within yourself. Build confidence by recognizing your baby's feelings and help them deal with all emotions. They may need extra patience from adults at this stage.

Stick to the procedures

While you can't attend kindergarten or school, it's nice to have regular activities each day - such as getting up and going to bed at regular times, being physically active, and doing schoolwork. Healthy, regular meals, sleep and exercise reduce stress in the body in both children and adults. These procedures can be disrupted when children are scared and / or sick. Do not let the children sit alone with the phone and tablet. It is wise to put your computer and phone aside an hour before bedtime.

Contact with people

Connect with friends and family via social media and phone. It is both a supportive time and it reduces stress.

Do what suits you

Do things you and your family love to do, such as watching movies, reading books, listening to music, or audiobooks. Family time can be positive, but you should also respect that children may need to be alone.
