This is how we irritate others on the road

We rarely make mistakes in saying that most people sometimes feel quite irritated by traffic. Even the most sensible of us can lead them to become irritated by other road users who are perceived as "completely incompetent".

Or otherwise: we get green fever ourselves when we just slide through a traffic light that was almost green.

There are many ways to irritate other road users.

Driving risk

A recent study by TNS Kantar shows what upsets other road users the most.

It is somewhat surprising that neither red light pedestrians, cyclists nor electric cars in the public transport sector are particularly frustrating in traffic. On the other hand, there is no distance to the car in front, uneven driving and driving below speed limit, which easily irritates others.

One in three is irritated by using a cell phone, and nearly half say it is annoying not to use the turn signal. But at the very top we find dangerous overtaking. As much as 58 percent. He is irritated by it.

- What is perceived as unsafe drivers agree fully, says NAF Senior Communications Adviser Nils Sødal.

There is little you can gain from stress

Sødal has some good advice for drivers currently traveling to or from winter holidays:

- The car is used by most people who go on winter holidays. There may be a traffic jam on departure. Then it is important not to stress, breathe calmly and stay in line. - If you want to avoid queues, it is worth to postpone or hasten your departure - he explains.

Even without a queue during the holiday season, there is often a lot of traffic. Then it is also wise to follow the traffic and not make dangerous overtaking.

- Incredibly little can be gained by driving past in heavy traffic. A bit too high speed also saves much less time than many people think. If you go 90 km / h in zone 80, you save 50 seconds per mile, says Sødal.

. What irritates us most about traffic:

  • Dangerous overtaking 58%
  • People who don't use turn signals 46%
  • People using a cell phone while driving 35%
  • People who do not keep their distance from the car before 26%
  • The drivers in front of us 23%
  • People driving below the statutory speed limits 18%
  • Those who do not turn off their high beam lights as they pass other cars 16%
  • People who crash in traffic jams  16%
  • Drivers unfamiliar with traffic rules at roundabouts 15%
  • Cyclists on the road 12%
  • Pedestrians walking at a red light 5%
  • People who drive electric cars in public transport 2%
  • People driving electric cars through stations toll collection 2%
  • Diesel cars that pollute 1%
  • Motorcyclists 1%
