The government has just decided that children under the age of 12 will also be tested at the border. The change is made because the new virus variants are more contagious, including when the person is infected with a child.

It is important that the test method used should be as gentle as possible

"It is important that testing is not inconvenient for children, and testing stations should receive guidance that the test method used should be as gentle as possible," says Minister of Health and Care Bent Høie.

For example, if a child protests, tests should not be performed

The Council of the Norwegian Health Directorate and the National Institute of Public Health stress that child sampling can now be done more gently by taking samples from the beginning of the nose. Children who cross the border frequently, for example for family reasons, are released from quarantine. In the opinion of the agency, this speaks in favor of testing all children.

If testing is not possible because, for example, a child is protesting, testing should not be done.

This change is effective from Monday, April 19, from midnight.
