Anniversary of the Norwegian state's adoption of the constitution in 1814.

Everything that is to happen in connection with the celebration of the national day on May 17 in Norway must be carried out in accordance with applicable national and possibly regional and local regulations and recommendations. If there is a risk that the celebration of the 17th maja or other event may lead to public gatherings or attracts people from different municipalities, it should be canceled.

Based on the assessments and contributions of the Norwegian Health Directorate and the National Institute of Public Health, the government has not developed its own rules for the implementation of the national holiday.

Giant choir and joint singing the hymn Norwegian

One of the highlights of last year's celebration was gathering all of Norway in a gigantic choir and singing the hymn "Ja, vi elsker". Also this year, the government will encourage all of Norway to join in while singing the national anthem. This happens right after the volleys from the fortifications at 12 o'clock.

- From apartments, mountain peaks, balconies, houses and gardens, I hope people will get up and sing. I know that the joint national anthem was a good and strong experience for many last year and I think that this spring we need a sense of community even more, says Abid Raja, Minister of Culture and Gender Equality.

Planning and carrying out the event?

All planning and implementation of the May 17 celebration is done locally, and work in many places is very advanced. It is individual communes, in consultation with the committee on May 17 and the city curator, who decide on the way of celebrating the celebration, guided by the current advice and rules.

Current regulations and recommendations must be followed

On May 17, the "trains", announced speeches, games, wreath-laying and the like are covered by the event regulations in the COVID-19 regulations.

- This means that areas that do not have local restrictions on banning events can carry out activities such as "Train" on May 17. Of course, all this with the current restrictions on the number of people and the distance kept. In other communes it will not be possible. In general, we encourage you to conduct events outdoors or online, says Minister of Health and Welfare Bent Høie.

Orchestras and choirs, which usually practice together, may march in the streets without prior notice

In municipalities where events are not allowed, orchestras and choirs, which usually practice together, may perform music or march through the streets without prior notice to avoid audience gatherings.
