- Health authorities are currently evaluating the foundations of the Global Summer Travel Council. Therefore, it is too early to say now how long the travel advice will last. This is the reason why the Global Travel Council extension will be short this time, only until May 25th. We need a little more time before we can say what the global travel council will look like this summer, says Foreign Office Communications Manager Trude Måseide.
In addition, they write that this is still an unpredictable situation for travelers, with severe restrictions in many countries and high infection rates.
- Consequently, there is still no justification for the concessions or abolition of the Global Travel Council at the present time. This is partly due to the global situation of infection, the capacity of healthcare systems in different countries, and travel restrictions in other countries.

From January 29, the government introduced strict restrictions on access foreigners to Norway. Generally, only foreigners living in Norway will be allowed to enter Norway, but some exceptions apply.
As the UK will no longer be a member of the EU from 1 January 2021, the UK will no longer be included in the entry quarantine assessment. British travelers will be quarantined on an equal footing with travelers from other countries outside the EU / EEA / Schengen (so-called Third Countries).
“Even though the infection rate is falling in Norway and many European countries. However, the situation in other countries around the world is serious. To reduce the risk of imported COVID-19 cases, there is now a general rule that any person arriving in Norway from a country outside the EEA / Schengen area must stay in a quarantine hotel, ”says Minister of Justice and Public Security Monica Mæland.
Previously, persons residing in Norway who returned after the necessary travel were exempt from the obligation to use quarantine hotels and could end the quarantine period in their own home. Now, this exception only applies to essential travel within the EEA / Schengen area.
Section 5 of the COVID-19 regulations has been amended. The rules for travelers from Bangladesh, Iraq, India, Nepal and Pakistan have been extended to all countries outside the EEA / Schengen area. The rules on exemption from border tests in section 4 d para. 3 lit. g) and (i) of the COVID-19 Regulations, which apply to diplomats and invited delegations, will be tightened so that this exemption does not apply to persons who, within 10 days prior to their arrival in Norway, visited the area outside the EEA / Schengen area.
“It is important to have municipalities nearby Gardermoen airport in Oslo helped each other and ensured the capacity of the quarantine hotels.” Emphasizes the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Monica Mæland.
These changes will enter into force on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 12:00.
