The government and NIPH updates every week travel map - and evaluates which countries and regions should have hotel or home quarantine requirements.

Latest data ECDC show what maybe be their decision in this week.

Poland it was red because it exceeded the infection requirements of the Norwegian authorities. But now, for two weeks now, the country has met the requirements - and will open soon. The same is true Romania i several regions of Finland, jak shows an overview of travel tips VG.

In addition, it is likely that travelers from several regions of Sweden and Denmark they will not have to be in hotel quarantine, they may quarantine at home. Also Belgium , France , Greece i Cyprus meet the exemption requirement from a quarantine hotel.

  • When is the government rushing to make a decision? The government usually makes decisions on Thursday / Friday and then new travel advice will apply from Sunday night to Monday night and sometimes Friday / Saturday night. In addition to checking the number of infections and the number of tests, they make an overall assessment.
  • What are yellow and red colors? You do not need to be quarantined upon arrival in Norway if you come from countries and areas marked in yellow. If you come from a country marked in orange, you must be quarantined at home. If you are from a dark red country you have to be quarantined in a hotel.
  • What if you are certified? Then you will receive an exception from the quarantine, regardless of the colors on this map. You still need to register on the application form and take the test when you arrive in Norway .

Poland has been yellow for a week now, why was it not opened earlier?

It is only in the even-numbered weeks that the FHI and the government decide whether certain countries / regions should waive the quarantine hotel requirement - and whether certain red countries can be considered yellow. It's been a week now. Therefore, this week they are checking that some countries and regions are below the requirements and can be opened.

In odd weeks (like last week) they only check if someone has exceeded the requirements - that is, if some yellow areas / countries should turn red, or if some countries should turn dark red and have hotel quarantine requirements.

This is the system that the government and NIPH created.

What are the requirements for yellow, red and dark red?

  • Yellow countries or areas have  fewer than 25 infected  per 100 inhabitants in the last two weeks and on average  less than 4%  positive samples in the same period.
  • Red countries or areas have  from 25 to 150 infected  per 100 inhabitants in the last 000 days i  on average less than 4% of positive samples over the same period.
  • In dark red countries jest  over 150 infected  per 100 inhabitants on average in the last 000 days over 4% positive samples in the same period.
  • Gray countries: Travelers from countries outside of Europe must stay in quarantined hotels, no matter how many infections they have, where they come from. Only countries in the EU / EEA UK that the government is considering whether to be labeled as yellow are considered.

. Why do other sources give different numbers?

If you check a country's infection pressure in World data tab in the VG data overview or on the websites of various authorities, you can find numbers other than in travel advice review . The reason is usually the date the numbers come from.

In order to be able to predict what changes may be made by the Norwegian authorities to travel councils, VG must collect data from the same numerical sources as FHI - and use the same calculation method.

NIPH uses data from  European Control Agency  Emergency Response (ECDC), which collects data from different countries, collects it and publishes the data once a week. The data here is therefore updated less frequently than the data in the world statistics of VG. Still, it is the ECDC data that is appropriate to calculate which countries are likely to turn yellow or red - and which countries may be required to undergo hotel quarantine. This is because the Norwegian authorities refer to these figures.

For regions in the Nordic region, the FHI collects data directly from the Danish, Swedish and Finnish infection control agencies. They are doing the same in Great Britain. VG gets data from the same place.

About the numbers on the Swedish FHM website: Please note that the Norwegian authorities require that within in the last two weeks, there have been fewer than 25 (or 150) cases per 100 inhabitants in any given country. It's not average for the past two weeks, as it shows on its FHM website.
