12 hours before their start. Thorir Hergeirsson, on the other hand, is convinced that nothing like this will happen.

The Norwegian girls handball boss said this at a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday afternoon, Norwegian time:

- We do not devote all this to one thought. It is beyond our control. If we are told about it (that the Olympics will be canceled), it is sad. But then we have to deal with it. We believe the games will take place and we will prepare as best we can, says Hergeirsson.

The head of the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee, Toshiro Muto, made headlines when he refused to rule out the cancellation of the Olympics if the number of infections in the million-strong city continued to rise.

- We cannot predict what will happen to a pandemic situation. Therefore, we will continue to discuss if there are any new infection peaks, Muto said.

The Tokyo games will be canceled

Three days before the opening of the Tokyo Olympics, several cases of infection among visiting athletes had already been reported.

Camilla Herrem was unfamiliar with Muto's statement when she met with Norwegian journalism portals in Tokyo on Tuesday.

- Of course, I do not count on the cancellation of the Olympics.

Herrem is participating in his third Olympics. She participated in obtaining gold for Norway in 2012.

- I'm just shocked. But it is difficult for us to say anything because we do not have access to current information. We prepare as usual and put responsibility on those who will make the decision.
