Discover the Wonder of Nature – Trollpikken

The Trollpikken phenomenon

Trollpikken, also known as Troll Penis, is a unique stone that became famous around the world after an incident that occurred one night in June 2017. Unknown perpetrators cut down this natural formation, sparking nationwide opposition. Thanks to the fundraising and the great enthusiasm of the local community, the stone was restored to its place after just two weeks. Today, Trollpikken once again dominates Norway's beautiful cultural landscape, a testament to the steadfastness and attachment of Norwegians to their natural heritage.

The Mystery of Anorthosite

The rock from which Trollpikken is built is anorthosite - a deep volcanic rock formed from magma about 1 billion years ago. Long before it was discovered that anorthosite also occurs on the lunar surface, the area was called the "lunar landscape" because of its sparse vegetation and unusual structure. Today, standing at the foot of Trollpikken, we can feel like we are in another world, admiring the landscape that changes depending on the time of day and year.

How to get to Trollpikken?

Adventure Awaits

When visiting Trollpikken, prepare for a short but fascinating hike through the typical terrain of the Dalane region. The 1,9 km long route starts from a gravel road and turns into a comfortable path that may surprise many people with mud or slippery rocks. We recommend equipping yourself with good hiking boots to fully enjoy this adventure.
