The old border crossing in Svinesund is open from midnight on Saturday 28 August. This applies to fully vaccinated people with a valid certificate. This is information for those who want to use the old Svinesund to enter Norway.

This change will lead to a much smaller queue for professional drivers

– The change is intended to alleviate the situation, especially in freight transport. We hope so the change will lead to a much smaller queue for professional drivers. This is reported by Chief of Staff Jan Eivind Myklatun in the Eastern Police District.

Old Svinesund can therefore be legally used by commuters, fully vaccinated with a valid certificate and a few other groups of exceptions (see regjeringen.no). All other travelers must use the E6 to enter Norway.

Everyone in the car must be fully vaccinated

It is emphasized that everyone in the car must be fully vaccinated in order to benefit from the old Svinesund. Children who are not covered by their own covid-19 exceptions for border crossings must continue to use E6. The same goes for travelers who need a customs declaration.

The police are also updating the necessary signage

As a result of these changes, the police will change land use and traffic regulation towards the checkpoint. All this to ensure better flow and throughput. The police are also in the process of updating the necessary signage, but this will not happen until Monday.
