Did you know that all workshops in Norway have to be approved by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration? This allows you to make a safer choice when repairing your car.

- The approval system ensures that the workshops have the appropriate competences and equipment so that your car is repaired safely and reliably. Therefore, always check that you are delivering the car to an approved repair shop, says department director Monika Omholt of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

The Norwegian Public Roads Authority monitors both approved and unapproved workshops. So far this year, the Norwegian Public Roads Authority has visited 112 companies that offer workshop services without a permit. It can be anything from companies that have the knowledge and equipment but without formalities to those who operate in garages and employ illegal labor.

- Work is carried out on a daily basis to ensure that workshop services are not performed by persons without approval. Sometimes information and guidance is needed, but in serious cases, work is ordered to halt immediately and a fine is imposed if they fail to take further action. In the worst case, we can also report to the police, says Omholt.

Unapproved workshop repairs may also be associated with several illegal terms. These are, evasion taxes and poor conditions pay and work. When The Norwegian Public Roads Authority takes action against illegal workshops, often done in cooperation with other agencies. The Norwegian Public Roads Authority is also part of the Trepart industry program for the automotive industry, which works for the larger automotive industry.
