- The man who committed the attack was arrested by the police, there is no active search for more people. Based on the information we have, there is one person behind this, says Aas.

The police then confirmed that the situation was now under control.

A witness interviewed by an NTB journalist says it was terrifying in the evening downtown.

“I heard the alarm went off on Coop, but I didn't think much about it. Then I heard that there were ambulances and police cars - says Marit Hoefle, who lives in Christian IV. des gate Kongsberg city center.

Hoefle lives right behind the Coop Extra store where, among other things, the tragedy took place.

He says the police went around with flashlights on Wednesday at 21:00 PM and were going through garages and yards in downtown Kongsberg.

Hoefle says there was a lot of traffic in the evening and many policemen were coming in and out of one of the neighboring houses.

- There are a lot of policemen dressed in black. There were also the police knocking on our door and asking if we were ok, she says.

Several crime scenes

Police say the perpetrator has walked around the area and therefore there are several locations where he committed the crime over a larger area.

In addition to the South East police, the Oslo police and the emergency department (Delta) participated in the entire operation. Several air ambulances were sent to the scene.

Witnesses said military forces assisted in the operation, but the Armed Forces operational command did not confirm their interference in the rescue operation.

Mayor Kari Anne Sand says that community mobilized and created emergency personnel to receive casualties.

- This is a tragedy for all those affected. I have no words, says Sand to VG .

A center has been set up in Gyldenløve Hotell where relatives and other victims can receive help, writes Laagendalposten .

- We are trying to solve the situation and look after those who are affected by these tragedies in various ways - says the mayor.
