Facebook plans to change the name to one that reflects the company's new commitment, reports The Verge.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be speaking at Connect's annual conference on October 28, but the name change can be announced ahead of time, writes The Verge. The page refers to a source that has direct knowledge of the process.

An upcoming name change that CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to talk about at the company's annual Connect conference on October 28. It will signal the tech giant's ambition. The reason is to be known not only for social media and all the problems that come with it. Rebranding positions the blue app Facebook as one of many products from the parent company that oversees groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and others. A Facebook spokesman declined to comment on this topic.

Facebook isn't the first known technology company to change its name with increasing ambition. In 2015, Google completely reorganized itself into the Alphabet holding company. Partly to signal that it is no longer just a search engine. It is now a vast conglomerate of companies producing driverless cars and medical technology. Snapchat changed its name to Snap Inc. in 2016, the same year he began calling himself a "photography company" and made his debut with his first pair of Spectacles glasses.

The name change will reflect Facebook's involvement in the so-called metaverse.

Reuters tried to get a comment from Facebook, but received a response that the company was not commenting on rumors or speculation.
