High electricity prices create problems for those who have the least. Now the government will increase housing subsidies to compensate for this.

- The Center Party and the Labor Party are very concerned about the very high prices of electricity recently and over time. We are committed to helping people. Therefore, within a few weeks, we will present proposals to the Storting to help those who are hit the hardest, says Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Sp) for VG .

Southern Norway is currently experiencing record levels high electricity prices, this can create problems, especially in the colder months ahead.

The government will increase housing subsidies

- We will strengthen the housing allowance and make proposals on this matter - says Vedum.

Housing Benefit is a state support system for people with low incomes and high housing costs.

Both the Conservatives and the Greens presented similar proposals on Wednesday. The Conservatives are proposing a temporary increase in housing benefits and social assistance to help households that are on low incomes due to high electricity prices. MMF will reduce VAT on electricity for households from November 1.

SV announced on Tuesday that it is demanding funding for electricity within the week and that it wants higher housing support. The Storting will vote Thursday on electricity price regulations, including higher housing support.

A miracle cure for high prices

Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Sp) says there is no miracle cure for the high electricity prices that left their mark in the fall.

He tells Klassekampen that he has been worried about recent developments and that the government has started to cut prices. However, Vedum cannot promise measures that will lead to immediate or rapid cuts in electricity bills.
