Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl believes there is no reason for the people of Oslo to feel insecure after the many recent shootings.

"I think many might be a little concerned, but it's important to remember that Oslo is a safe city," Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp) said during a press briefing at the Stovner Police Station on Tuesday.

Earlier, she met with Chief of Police Beate Gangås and with the management of the East Unit, where she was briefed on the situation in connection with the recent shootings in Oslo.

Since August 15, eight young men have been shot and killed in six shootings in Oslo. Five of the six shootings took place east of Oslo.

- There are close connections and conflicts that we have seen now. They have been in known criminal circles, and there is no reason for people to think Oslo is not safe, says Mehl.
