Financier Idar Vollvik is accused of selling at least 700 non-medical face masks as medical. The case will go to court on New Year's Day.

Vollvik repackaged and sold ordinary face masks for medical use for NOK 47 million, writes Dagens Næringsliv. According to the newspaper, an indictment was brought in this case.

The case will be heard in Hordaland County Court in January.

- As far as I know, this is the first time that an indictment has been issued under the Medical Equipment Act and we have no similar cases to compare. This case is special, says Acting Unit Manager Petter Alexander Strømme of the Norwegian Medicines Agency to Bergensavisen.

The entrepreneur was arrested on September 1 last year after a police action against Vovi in Bergen. Dagens Næringsliv writes that he could be fined or imprisoned for up to two years if found guilty.

Vollvik and his lawyer Arild Christian Dyngeland tell DN they will not comment on the case.
