– I am happy to confirm that the Norwegian authorities are in the process of recovering an orphaned child who was in a camp in Syria. The child had a Norwegian father. The father-child relationship has been established through DNA and the child is therefore considered a Norwegian citizen, he says Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt.
- The child is at school age and is on his way to Norway. The Norwegian authorities found out about the case this spring and work on the case has been a high priority since then.
– Apart from that, we will not provide any further information about the child or about trip to Norway. The reason for this is that we do not want to contribute to the identification of the child. I ask everyone to respect that the child was protected and not to be identified. It is important to could come to Norway with as much peace around you as possible. It gives you the best foundation to shape your own life here. says the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
