The Commission launched DiscoverEU in June 2018 following preparatory actions by the European Parliament. It is integrated with Erasmus+ program 2021-2027 .
35 free DiscoverEU tickets
From this summer, thousands of young people will once again be able to travel for free across Europe by train thanks to the latest call for applications under the DiscoverEU programme. Today at 12:00 CET, during the eventful European Youth Week, the Commission launched the latest application round for DiscoverEU. It will end on Tuesday, April 30 at 12:00 CET.

Just take a five-question quiz about the EU
A total of 35 passes are available. To receive it, young people born between 500 July 1 and 2005 June 30 can take a quiz containing five questions about the EU and one additional question on European Youth Portal . Selected applicants will receive a free train ticket to travel around Europe for a maximum of 30 days between July 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
Erasmus program also for Norway
The competition is open to candidates from the European Union and associated countries Erasmus+ program , including Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey. Ticket holders can plan their own routes or follow existing ones. For example, they may discover one that was launched last year route focusing on cities and places that make the European Union "beautiful, sustainable and inclusive" in line with the principles New European Bauhaus .
Participants can also benefit from DiscoverEU Cultural Trail – initiative of the European Youth Year 2022, which combines various cultural directions, including architecture, music, fine arts, theater, fashion and design. Participants can visit European Capitals of Culture located on UNESCO World Heritage List. They can visit places bearing the European Heritage Label or places certified by the Access City Award , i.e. cities that have done everything to become more accessible to everyone.

It's more than just a ticket
DiscoverEU is much more than just a ticket. Participants will also receive discount card entitling you to over 40 discounts on public transport, culture, accommodation, food, sports and other services in eligible countries. In addition National Agencies of the Erasmus+ program they organize information meetings before departure. However, national agencies in all countries participating in the Erasmus+ program prepare DiscoverEU meetings , i.e. educational programs lasting from one to three days.
Social inclusion is a top priority for Erasmus+, so participants with disabilities or health problems receive support during their journey. From October 2022, the national agencies of the Erasmus+ program are implementing DiscoverEU inclusion campaign , enabling organizations working with young people with fewer opportunities to apply for a grant. This action provides participants with additional support in the form of additional financing and the opportunity to travel with accompanying people. Since the first call for proposals in October 2022, Erasmus+ national agencies have awarded over 250 projects, and this year there are two calls for proposals under the Inclusive Action.
While DiscoverEU encourages sustainable rail travel, there are special solutions for young people from outermost regions, overseas counties and territories, remote areas and islands.
First trip without parents or accompanying adults
Since 2018, over 1 million applicants have applied for the 284 available tickets. The latest post-trip survey shows that 000% of candidates declared that it was their first time traveling by train outside their country of residence. For many, it was also their first trip without their parents or accompanying adults, and most indicated an increased sense of independence. More than two thirds said that without DiscoverEU they would not be able to finance their travel ticket.
