The city of Oslo proposes that only three suppliers are responsible for renting electric scooters at a time.

The record will appear in the presale of the new regulations for renting electric scooters.

At the same time, the limit of the total number of 8000 electric vehicles will still apply.

If more than three actors meet the conditions of the lease, selection will take place after an assessment based, inter alia, on the actor's "procedures and instruments for providing access to public spaces", the proposal states.

The regulations were sent for consultation on Monday. The consultation deadline is December 13th.

Currently in Oslo for commercial rent electric scooters 12 companies operate. Each company can rent 667 electric scooters.

A step in the right direction

Voi, one of the current Oslo operators, says in a press release that he believes the proposed new regulation is a step in the right direction, but the cap on the number of electric scooters should be raised.

Oslo residents want many more than 8000 electric scooters. To meet this need, the city council should raise the limit while investing in more dedicated parking spaces for electric scooters. They say that if city officials want, better space can be created for a means of transport with many thousands of users, without endangering pedestrians and other road users.
