Several of the country's largest cities have decided to cancel public fireworks on New Years Eve due to infection control measures. As it turns out, not all cities decide to cancel the shows.

Everything indicates that fireworks will be fired normally in both Bergen and Stavanger. But in Stavanger, people are encouraged to watch the show from where they are celebrating. To prevent rallies, the community writes on its website.

In Tromsø, fireworks are disappearing from the commune's agenda. The annual fireworks display will be held under the private patronage of Fjellfyrverkeriet, which is funded by private individuals and the city's business community.

Canceled in several major cities

In Oslo, public fireworks were canceled last year due to infection control. But this year, fireworks were canceled for another reason - the city council did not allocate money for them in its budget.

Fireworks were canceled in Trondheim, Drammen and Kristiansand. In Trondheim, the reason is that national COVID-19 laws say no more than 100 people are allowed to gather at outdoor public events.

For the same reason, the Drammen municipality reports on its website that it is also canceling this year's firework shows.

New Year's Eve and fireworks in Norway - Criticism last year

Coronavirus is also the cause in Kristiansand. Last year, the commune was criticized after New Year's public shows, in which several thousand residents gathered.

-In Bodø, this year, as well as last year, will be a digital New Year celebration. There will be fireworks, but no audience, says the commune. They encourage people to watch the fireworks from home or directly via the municipal live stream on the internet.
