. On Tuesday, the Fremskrittspartiet will present a proposal to the Stortinget to develop new hydropower plants where they are environmentally friendly, including in protected watercourses.
In a representative application, MMF asks the government to ensure that the energy companies themselves can apply for a license on currently protected watercourses.
FRP's energy policy spokesman, Frank Sve, justifies this proposal high electricity prices and uncertainty about the future energy situation. He says it is important to think long-term to avoid future energy deficits in Norway.
"Then we have to take care of increasing our energy production in the coming years by developing more hydropower plants," says Sve.
FRP proposes the development of the hydropower sector, and Arbeiderpartiet and Høyre undecided
Earlier, Senterpartiet and Fremskrittspartiet voted in favor of the proposal to increase energy production by opening protected watercourses for development. While the discussion continues among Arbeiderpartiet and Høyre.
Terje Aasland (Arbeiderpartiet), chairman of the energy and environment committee in Stortinget, said on the New Year's weekend that he had no doubt that Norway needs more electricity.
"In connection with the Energy Commission, it will be natural to discuss how we can make better use of the existing hydropower plant, but also to see if it is possible to extend what was protected," he said.
389 protected watercourses
Nikolai Astrup (H) announced that the government could count on Høyre's support in assessing the gentle development of protected watercourses. With the proviso that this is not at the expense of conservation values, and a new technology is used.
A total of 389 watercourses in Norway are completely or partially protected from development.
In addition to developing more hydropower plants, FRP proposes improving existing hydropower plants. This would happen through changes in the system tax and simplifying the processing time for new license cases.
